Justified Season 4 Premiere: War, Turmoil And Salvation
Justified premieres Season 4 tonight on FX, introducing new mysteries and obstacles for U.S. Marshal Raylan Givins and the people of Harlan County. Mixing drama and suspense with a hint of humor and a few dashes of violence, Justified doesn't waste much time getting the ball rolling on Season 4's story. And as a bonus, the premiere includes an appearance by Patton Oswalt.
Justified stars Timothy Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, the local lawmen in the county of Harlan. Here's FX's recently released promo for Season 4, which hints at what's ahead. That includes God, Raylan's father, romance and some gunplay…
Vague spoilers about Season 4 ahead!
Season 4 introduces a bit of new religion to Harlan County in the form of a dramatic but potentially manipulative Pentecostal preacher who might be making things difficult for Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), whose business is crime and tends to conflict with religion in that way. Joseph Mazzello (The Pacific - though you may also recognize him from Jurassic Park) sells the preacher role well, as we're left to wonder if he's genuinely trying to save the people of Harlan, or if he has some hidden motives. Meanwhile, tonight's premiere introduces the start of a new mystery for Raylan, which begins with a flashback at the start of the premiere, and appears to be connected to Raylan's father. The situation results in Raylan teaming up with Patton Oswalt's Constable Bob Sweeney, a law enforcer who lacks the skill and confidence of Raylan, but is determined to prove himself. Patton Oswalt plays the relatively tame and awkward role perfectly, and he plays off Olyphant's confidence just as well.
With a few new arcs introduced in the first couple of episodes of the season, Justified wastes no time building new momentum. It'll be exciting to see where things go as the season progresses.
Justified premieres tonight (Tuesday, January 8) at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX.
