Kid Controversy Continues
CBS really couldn’t have asked for better publicity for their upcoming new reality series, Kid Nation. Sure, they’re dealing with legal issues but the controversy surrounding the series has really shined a light on the upcoming show about 40 kids who are essentially left to fend for themselves in a little town in New Mexico.
The kids in Kid Nation range from the ages of 8 to 15 years old. The reality show films their work in establishing their own community, which includes getting drinking water and food, doing chores and even establishing their own government. According to Variety, the show’s executive producer, Tom Forman, says the show is mean to “prove to adults that they were capable of doing more than anyone thought they could ever do.”
One of the promos for this new series has a cover version of the Tears For Fears classic, “Everybody Wants to Rule The World” and shows some clips of the kids struggling to establish their community. To be honest, the promos added to the controversy have gotten me more than intrigued over how things will play out for these kids. It’s also raised a few eyebrows and some legal trouble for CBS as at least one of the parents has made complaints and has questioned whether the series violates New Mexican child labor laws. Variety reports that a spokesman for the New Mexico attorney general is reviewing the state’s labor laws.
Kid Nation premieres Wednesday, September 19th at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
