National Geographic’s Killing Lincoln just hit digital platforms a few weeks ago, on May 21. If you have been interested in catching the docudrama, which follows the final days in President Lincoln’s life, you’ll be able to do so soon. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing Tony and Ridley Scott’s Killing Lincoln to Blu-ray and DVD on June 11.
The TV movie is a familiar story, but this particular version is based on a bestselling nonfiction book by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. In the movie, The Killing’s Billy Campbell takes on the role of President Lincoln and the man is supported by Tom Hanks, who narrates the drama. That awesome combination ended up bringing in record numbers for Nat Geo and the network was so happy with the project they’ve already signed on for O’Reilly and Dugard’s two other titles, Killing Kennedy and Killing Jesus.
If you did catch the series when it first aired and want to look more into the filmmaking process or the adaptation of the book on to film, both Blu-ray and DVD copies will come with bonus features, some standard and some that seem a little outside the box. A “making of” segment and audio commentary with writer Erik Jendresen will be available, but O’Reilly will also pop up on the disc to talk about the book that made the movie possible.
