Kirstie Alley's TV Land Project Gets A Series Order
TV Land has done a great job of carving out a niche in original programming by simply taking TV stars from the past and putting them into new comedies, usually with the help of the age-old laugh track. A few months ago, the network had the brilliant idea of signing TV vets including Kirstie Alley, Rhea Pearlman, and Seinfeld’s Michael Richards on for a new pilot, and now the network has announced Kirstie’s New Show is getting a series order.
Kirstie’s New Show, formerly titled Giant Baby, follows Alley as Broadway star Maddie Banks, who gave up a son for adoption a long time ago. When her now-adult son shows up hoping to connect with his birth mother, Alley’s character’s life is thrown into a bit of a whirlwind. We first heard about the TV project back in September. Since then, Pearlman has been cast as Maddie’s assistant and confidante, actual Broadway actor Eric Peterson has been cast as Maddie’s son, and Richards has signed on as Maddie’s chauffer. As you can see, it’s going to be a pretty Alley-centric program.
Still, this mash-up of stars has certainly won over executives at TV Land, because EW is reporting Kirstie’s New Show is off to a good start, earning a 12-episode order at the network, as well as a fall premiere. You can check out Alley’s big announcement regarding Kirstie’s New Show, which focuses on the star herself spending TV Land’s money, below.
