Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Produces Second Downton Sixbey Sketch
Back in April, Jimmy Fallon collected a number of people involved with Late Night along with some well-known celebrities to create Downton Sixbey a spoof of the BBC’s Downton Abbey set in studio 6B. At the time, it seemed like the sort of sketch requiring a lot of time and effort to continue to keep airing, so I wasn’t certain we would see the parody again, despite its cliffhanger ending. As it turns out, Downton Sixbey is alive, returning to Late Night during Thursday’s episode.
This time around, Questlove comes into the picture as the new heir of Sixbey, also bringing along his mother, played by Whoopi Goldberg. Despite a few racial jokes that didn’t seem to play out as well as the rest of the episode, the whole thing is entirely amusing, especially when Fred Armisen, as the unsightly daughter, Edith, works it out on a drum kit. Other highlights of the show include a call-back to a Kardashian joke from the last installation of Downton Sixbey and some impertinence from O’Flanagan. Just when Questlove is about to step up to become the Late Night successor, a mysterious guest appears to ruin the musician’s evening. Who is the mysterious guest? You’ll have to watch to find out.
Late Night with Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 12:35 p.m. ET.
