MTV's Comedy The Inbetweeners To Premiere This August

MTV continues to reach out to their target audience of teens and young adults with original programming to mixed success. While things have worked out nicely so far for shows like Teen Wolf and Awkward, the same could not be said for I Just Want My Pants Back or Skins, the latter of which was a remake of a British series. Perhaps things will work out better for The Inbetweeners, a series set to premiere later this summer.

Starring Joey Pollari, Bubba Lewis, Zack Pearlman, Mark L. Young and Alex Frnka, The Inbetweeners is MTV's next attempt at an adaptation of a British series, and follows a group of teenagers trying to navigate the challenging world of high school. Deadline reports that MTV has scheduled a premiere date for comedy, which is being adapted by Brad Copeland. The site reports that viewers can expect to find the series premiering on MTV on Monday, August 20 at 10:30 p.m., following the return of Rob Dyrdek's Ridiculousness.

Say what you will about adaptations of British series. It's fair to criticize the attempt, given the success rate, which doesn't seem very high, excluding reality programming and a handful of exceptions (The Office, Being Human, etc). However, the premise of this series sounds pretty basic, which should make it pretty adaptable. And it has Brad Copeland on its side. Copeland's writing credits include Grounded for Life, My Name is Earl, and Arrested Development. I'd consider those to be three reasons to give The Inbetweeners a chance when it premieres next summer.
