MTV Dumps TRL

On MTV, it’s all about FNMTV these days, so it’s no real surprise that the network is dropping their once huge, now not-so-huge music video countdown series TRL. Total Request Live, which has been around for a decade will finish out its run this November.

Variety posted the news stating that TRL will depart in mid-November and that its departure will coincide with Feedback New MTV (FNMTV), which according to MTV’s people, is “drawing more interest” among viewers and music labels.

I remember when TRL was all the rage. During the video countdown, musicians like Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys and whatever pop musicians were hot at the time would make appearances. Screaming teenagers often stood outside the studio in Time Square holding up signs and squealing in delight at the slightest glimpse of their idol. I suppose those teens grew up and moved on with their lives, leaving a new crop of teens to become bored with TRL and look for something younger and more “them.” Ain’t that always the way of things.
