MTV Gets Musical With The American Mall
It looks like MTV’s going to try to cash in on the tween market with their own made-for-TV musical. From the people who exec-produced High School Musical, MTV is set to air The American Mall this August.
The musical will center on Ally (Nina Dobrev), a girl who works at her mom’s music store at the local mall. Ally has aspirations to become a singer/songwriter and when she meets the dreamy Joey (Rob Mayes), a musician who’s working at the mall as a janitor, it seems as though things are finally coming together. Then Madison (Autumn Reeser), the spoiled daughter of the mall’s owner gets involved and messes everything up, putting the music store in jeopardy in the process.
Check out the trailer below and for more information, visit the movie’s website. It looks and sounds totally cheesy and definitely geared towards tweens and teens. . Though, it’ll be interesting to see if the movie lives up to the standards set by High School Musical. Sure, HSM is totally corny and meant for kids but if there’s one thing it has going for it, it’s the giant heaping pile of teen-talent that makes up the cast (plus, I won’t lie – the songs are pretty). I’m curious to see if TAM has the same thing going for it.
The American Mall premieres on MTV on Monday, August 11 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The DVD and soundtrack will be available on Tuesday, August 12th.
