MTV Pimps And Tricks Tonight

Noticed a lack of tricked-out cars in your midst lately? Wondering how you too can outfit you car with a tailpipe that blows bubbles? Thinking that the true meaning of a “green” car is one with a rainforest theme?

MTV is there for you, and then some. In addition to bringing back ‘Pimp My Ride’ for its--oh no!-- final season, the network will also debut ‘Trick It Out’ tonight. ‘Pimp’ is coming back with eight new episodes, previously seen once in a marathon on June 9, that will finish the show’s culture-defining run. Xzibit and his car specialist Mad Mike will be back to rescue the old, the junky, or the plain ugly cars from their fates and turn them into something, well, unforgettable. MTV is running a marathon of old ‘Pimp’ shows all day today in case you need to catch up-- after all, the knowledge of exactly what kind of pimping went on before might just help you predict how the pimping will happen next. With ‘Lost’ and ‘24’ gone for the summer, all that TV mental energy has to go somewhere, right? Full episodes are also available online here.

As for ‘Trick It Out,’ think of it this way: ‘Trick It Out’ is to ‘Pimp My Ride’ as ‘Top Chef’ is to ‘The Barefoot Contessa.’ In other words, all the basic elements are the same, but this time, it’s a competition! Riva.l car shops are given clunkers of about the same quality, $15,000 and 10 days to turn the cars around based on a given theme of the week-- horror, safari, military, etc. The winning team takes home their winning car as well as the losing teams car-- because what’s better than one safari-themed car? Two!

Hosting ‘Trick’ will be Becky O’Donohue, who parlayed her incredibly brief stint on the fifth season of ‘American Idol’ into an appearance on ‘Fear Factor’ and a photoshoot in Maxim, both with her twin sister, Jessie. Who wants to take bets on the likelihood of a twin-themed car?

‘Trick It Out’ premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV, with ‘Ride’ coming back at 10:30. Episodes of the show can be purchased the next day at Amazon Unbox (http://unbox.amazon.com), AOL Video (http://video.aol.com), iTunes Store (www.iTunes.com) and Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360.
