Malibu Country Showrunner Stepping Down

Like Revenge, Malibu Country is still awaiting word on its fate at ABC. And also like Revenge, if the ABC series does move forward for another season, it will be doing so with a new showrunner. Nastaran Dibai is reportedly departing the series, which already wrapped up its first season last month.

Deadline says Dibai stepped in to run Reba McIntyre's Malibu Country when series creator/executive producer Kevin Abbott stepped away from the position in order to enter rehab. The site says if ABC gives the comedy a second season order, Dibai won't be returning to her role as showrunner. She reportedly had hoped to make some big changes to the show in its second season and ABC wasn't up for whatever it was she had in mind. It is possible that Abbott will return to the series if it moves forward, but that sounds like little more than speculation at this point. And we may not know for sure until ABC makes their decision on the series official one way or the other. At this point, it's looking like fellow Friday comedy Last Man Standing stands a good chance at renewal, whereas things are a bit less certain for Malibu Country.

Malibu Country isn't the only series poised to undergo a showrunner change, should it make it onto the 2013-2014 roster at ABC. Earlier today, we shared the news that Revenge's Mike Kelley was set to depart the ABC drama once Season 2 finishes up. Also like Malibu Country, Revenge is still awaiting official word on its fate at the network.
