Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Goldbergs, Fangasm And More Premiere Tonight
It's a big day for TV premieres! Not only is ABC unveiling two new comedies, but they're also set to debut two new dramas, one of which just so happens to be one of the most anticipated new series of the season. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres tonight! The arrival of the super-drama makes Syfy's timing seem all the more perfect in debuting their new reality TV show Fangasm later on tonight. Check out trailers for both series and more ahead!
Premiering tonight (Tuesday, Sept 24) at 8:00 p.m. is Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a drama from Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, which takes us into the lives and work of the agents who work at the global law enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. If you've seen pretty much any of the recent Marvel movies in recent years, you've heard of them. Clark Gregg reprises his role as the believed-to-be-deceased Agent Coulson, who's tasked with leading a team of highly skilled agents to investigate extra-normal and superhuman people and events around the world. Read Eric's take of the pilot that was screened at Comic-Con here.
Following SHIELD, ABC has their new 80s-set comedy The Goldbergs set to premiere. Adam F. Goldberg's family-focused comedy takes us back to the 80s in a Wonder Years-like way, as it looks back on the childhood memories of the youngest son in a typical suburban family. Patton Oswalt's voice narrates as we witness the amusing antics of the Goldberg family, led by Jeff Garlin's Murray and Wendi McLendon-Covey's Beverly. As an 80s kid and a fan of Goldberg's previous work, including Fanboys the under-appreciated Breaking In, I really liked this one. Read my full review here. The Goldbergs airs at 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC tonight.
Following The Goldbergs, ABC has Trophy Wife set to premiere. The half-hour comedy stars Malin Akerman as a woman who goes from being single and having fun to being a wife of a slightly older man and the stepmother to his three kids. Factor in two ex-wives who are still sort of in the picture and things get ever more complicated. There's definite potential for the premise and the cast is great. In addition to Akerman, Trophy Wife stars Bradley Whitford, Marcia Gay Harden and Natalie Morales. Read our review of the first episode here. Trophy Wife premieres tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Finally, ABC caps off a night of new programming with Lucky 7, a drama about a group of gas station employees, each of whom is dealing with their own set of issues when their group lotto pool hits the jackpot, turning most of them into millionaires. We've seen lotto-dramas before with The Nine and Windfall, though neither of those lasted beyond a season. Whether or not Lucky 7 has what it takes to surpass those series remains to be seen. Check out the premiere when it airs tonight at 10:00 p.m. on ABC. Read our review of the first episode here.
And as an alternative to Lucky 7, there's Fangasm, Syfy's new reality series, which is set to premiere tonight at 10:00 p.m. and introduces us to a group of proud geeks who were selected to work at an exciting and very geektastic internship. Syfy couldn't have picked a better night to air this series, as I'm thinking it'll appeal to the Agents of SHIELD fans, and anyone who loves comics, sci-fi and other fanboy/fangirl topics. At the very least, if you're a fan of George Takei, you won't want to miss this series' premiere as he makes a pretty great appearance. Read our review here.
Also airing tonight are the season premieres of NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest and Chicago Fire..
