Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Video Introduces Us To Brett Dalton's Grant Ward
"Fans are going to love this," Brett Dalton says of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Let's hope so. We want to love it! In fact, the ABC series may be so highly anticipated by fans of the Marvel films and comics that the series will have to work that much harder not to let us down. Let's not worry about those high expectations right now, because all signs point to something really great with this one, and the new character featurette is no exception. In addition to introducing us to Dalton's character Grant Ward, a polite but serious sounding name for a polite and serious looking character, we got some glimpses of the upcoming drama, including a fireplace that conceals a hidden room (yes!) and some futuristic special effects in the form of some Stark-inspired (or maybe actual Stark Industries) technology.
What did we learn about Dalton's Grant Ward? He's the clean-cut black ops guy, who's skilled at recon work and probably good at everything he tries to do. If he's flawed in one area, it appears to be his people skills. He comes off as all business in the video above, and when Coulson tries to make a joke, it goes right over his head. I see him as the Riley of this group, if we're trying to compare him to past characters of the Whedonverse. With that in mind, going by the book can come in handy, but it might hold him back. Every character has to have a weakness, right?
What he lacks in people skills, he makes up for in other areas, including his ability to look intensely good in a suit…
And he has expressive eyebrows, which you may not think are a notable attribute, but those could come in handy when a moment calls for a dryly humorous, wordless reaction.
And here he is in the group shot, over on the right.
Hopefully the arrival of Grant Ward's featurette means we'll be seeing new videos in the coming weeks that showcase some of the other characters in the story. And we might expect something new next week when the series is featured in a Comic-Con panel. More details on that here. Be sure to follow the show's Facbeook page for more updates and videos.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on Tuesdays this fall on ABC.
