NBC it would seem is not immune to the “no vacation” blues in 2009. NBC has announced that the Today show will not be sending Matt Lauer to exotic locations for a week this year, as they have every year for nearly a decade. Viewers indicated to the network that such an endeavor might send the wrong message in this economic downturn.
Have no fear though, for Matt Lauer will be traveling. Just on a local scale as Today brings a week long feature on affordable vacation spots in the United States. Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry, and Al Roker will accompany Lauer on these family, and budget, friendly soirees into the American landscape.
The irony is that because they’re sending four people the producers aren’t yet sure the trip will actually cost less. The series begins on Today during the May 1st episode.
