Mockingbird Lane Lives: Munsters Reboot Pilot To Air As A Halloween Special - UPDATED
Rumors and reports on the fate of the Munsters reboot continue to float around, and it seems unclear as to whether or not the Bryan Fuller and Bryan Singer's project has been officially scrapped. Signs seem to point in that direction, and this latest report might support that. But on the bright side, it looks like the pilot may actually see the light of day, even if it isn't actually going to series.
When we shared word that reports were saying Mockingbird Lane was not being ordered to series, I mentioned that I thought the project might have fit in well next to NBC's Grimm, which also has a supernatural/monster twist. NBC may have made that same (obvious) connection, because THR is reporting that the network plans to air the pilot later this month before an airing of Grimm. THR's sources say that the pilot, which ran up a $10 million bill for the network, will air as a Halloween special on Friday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. before Grimm. That would be the Friday before Halloween.
Given the cost of the pilot and how long it took to get it made (two years!), it makes sense that NBC would want to get their money's worth from it. Not having seen it yet, it's hard to feel especially disappointed if it really isn't going to series, but as a fan of both Singer and Fuller's work, I had high hopes that they were putting together something really different (reboot-aspect aside) and special. At the very least, assuming the pilot makes it onto the schedule in the coming weeks, we'll get to see the finished product. And given that it still seems (technically) unofficial that the pilot has been scrapped, maybe there's some shred of a chance that positive ratings and feedback on the pilot might breath some life back into the project. Bryan Fuller did Tweet the following last night:
Of course, he may have been referring to the pilot airing, but perhaps this is an indication that there is a chance the show could move forward.
Update: NBC just passed along the official word that the pilot will air on 10/26 before Grimm:
