My Boys' Jordana Spiro Cast In Fox Drama Pilot
The so far untitled Josh Wright/Rob Berman medical drama in Fox’s new pilot order lineup has cast the lead role. Jordana Spiro, best known for the TBS drama My Boys has nabbed the top spot in the currently untitled pilot, where she will play a talented young doctor whose love for her family takes her life and medical career down an unexpected path.
According to Deadline Spiro has signed on to play Grace Delvin, a top cardiothoracic surgeon in Chicago’s medical world. When her brother finds himself in hot water with the mob due to some gambling debts, she takes on the role of a doctor to the mob after hours to help get him out of trouble. Now that’s some sisterly love. Also cast in the pilot today is Jaime Lee Kirchner, who will play a resident working with Spiro’s character and the daughter of the hospital’s Chairman.
Kirchner is no stranger to medical dramas, she appeared as a nurse on the short-lived drama Mercy. Spiro however has mainly been known for her comedy roles, although she’s been trying her hand at drama recently with recurring guest spots on Dexter and Harry’s Law. Based on the brief plot summary it seems like good casting, but the mob doctor idea itself sounds a little forced. It’s definitely different from the standard fare in medical dramas, but will depend a lot on writing and the rest of the casting to rise above a plot line that so far isn't inspiring a whole lot of confidence in me.
