NBC Cancels Bionic Woman
Spoiler TV is reporting that NBC is canceling Bionic Woman. The news was somewhat anticipated, but for many of us, the sci-fi show was a bright spot in the fall lineup.
The series resurrected the legendary Jaime Sommers, with Michelle Ryan taking over the role originated by Lindsay Wagner in a 1975 TV movie, which morphed into a series that ran from 1976-1978. In the new series, a devastating car accident leaves Jaime at death’s door, and her only hope for survival is a top-secret, cutting-edge technology that’ll make her stronger and faster than humanly possible. Suddenly, the struggling bartender has to figure out how to use her powers for good, while continuing to live a “normal” life and act as a surrogate mom to her teenage sister.
I liked the way the show showed the human side of Jaime’s predicament. Really, we’ve got special effects and CG elements in everything these days, but Bionic Woman went further than that. You know, the whole journey of self-discovery stuff. And Michelle Ryan could kick ass with the best of them. I’ll be sad to see her go.
