NBC Gives Big Hits The Green

Ranging in tone from somber to supernatural to silly, NBC has just given the go-ahead to several of its break-out hits as well as some of its ongoing classics, to continue on to the 2007-2008 season. These include ‘My Name is Earl,’ ‘Heroes,’ ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,’ as well as ‘The Office.’

Representing perhaps the sitcom gold standard at the moment, ‘The Office’ won the Emmy as top comedy, and has earned all kinds of critical praise for its bitingly funny satire of, well, the corporate office. Meanwhile, the supernaturally-saturated series ‘Heroes’ ranked No. 1 among the 18-49 demographic during its hyper-powered rookie season last fall.

Surely ensconced in ecstasy over the resurgence of his network, NBC entertainment prez Kevin Reilly, quoted in Variety, says, "These four series represent some of the best of what we consider to be the NBC brand of quality shows."

The Peacock shows no signs of slowing its strut, either. According to TV.com, it just recently gave the order for six one-hour episodes to an improvisational comedy titled ‘Thank God You’re Here.’ That show will feature David Alan Grier (of ‘In Living Color’ fame) as host, while Dave Foley (Blast From the Past) will judge the acts of various celebs brought on to perform. Game show ‘Identity,’ will also return to NBC sometime in March.
