NBC Wants You To Build Your Own Hero
For something that they’re allegedly not making any money off of, NBC really wants you to go to their website. According to E!Online , the network launched a “Create Your Hero” feature on its Heroes website . The tool allows fans to choose the different attributes they want their next hero to have (both male and female). You can choose where they’re from, appearance, and more than likely, even have a hand in determining their abilities.
NBC wants to keep you coming back, so they only give you a few options per week. This week it’s place of origin, appearance and body type. The choices with the most votes are revealed during commercial breaks, with the final results to be announced sometime next year. According to the results so far, viewers want their male hero to be large, rugged and American, while they want their next female hero to be medium, exotic and European. I wonder if this is how mail-order bride sites work?
This idea is similar to that of Heroes: Origins. With that, fans were supposed to choose the hero they liked the most, with the winner graduating to full-time cast member on the mother show. The Create Your Hero feature lends itself to the belief that Heroes: Origins was scuttled not because of a lack of faith in the brand, but because of the uncertainty resulting from the writers strike.
