The Neighbors Preview: A Look At The New ABC Comedy Invading Wednesday Night This Fall

Joining ABC this fall as the only new comedy to land a spot on the Wednesday night block of comedies is The Neighbors, a series that focuses on family (with a sci-fi twist) and should benefit from the Modern Family lead-in. Check out the trailer and see if you think it's going to fit in with the rest of ABC's Wednesday night line-up.

Starring Jami Gertz and Lenny Venito, The Neighbors is a comedy that follows a family that moves into a gated community only to learn just how different their neighbors are. Here's the synopsis and cast photo…

How well do you know your neighbors?Meet the Weavers, Debbie (Jami Gertz) and Marty (Lenny Venito). Marty, in hopes of providing a better life for his wife and three kids, recently bought a home in Hidden Hills, a gated New Jersey townhome community with its own golf course. Hidden Hills is so exclusive that a house hasn't come on the market in 10 years. But one finally did and the Weavers got it!It's clear from day one that the residents of Hidden Hills are a little different. For starters, their new neighbors all have pro-athlete names like Reggie Jackson (Tim Jo), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Toks Olagundoye), Dick Butkis (Ian Patrick) and Larry Bird (Simon Templeman). Over dinner, Marty and his family discover that their neighbors receive nourishment through their eyes by reading books, rather than eating. The Weavers soon learn that the entire community is comprised of aliens from Zabvron, where the men bear children and everyone cries green goo from their ears.

The premise sounds amusing in a sort of Third Rock from the Sun/Coneheads kind of way, but I'm not sure how I feel about the trailer…

What do you think? Seems a bit on the goofy side, which has me wondering how well this show will fit in paired with Modern Family. I do like Jami Gertz though, so while I'm not in love with the trailer, I'm going to reserve judgment on this one until I at least see the pilot.
