The Newsroom: The Complete First Season Blu-ray Will Hit Homes In June
The Newsroom: The Complete First Season has finally been announced by HBO. Unfortunately, fans of the drama that was created and is executive produced and chiefly written by West Wing mastermind Aaron Sorkin, will still have a while to wait to catch their favorite episodes on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download. The Golden Globe nominated series will hit home entertainment platforms on June 11.
The Newsroom stars Jeff Daniels as an anchor at Atlantis Cable News who in Season 1 must deal with a brand new executive producer and a slew of young reporters wanting to get the news out as quickly and efficiently as possible, as well as plenty of personal drama. The show is often better when it is delving into personalities and inter-office romances than when it simply tries to do the news, but either way, Daniels is engaging and the series may be worth a watch.
You’ll have to be the one to decide whether or not it is worth a purchase, however. Here’s where things get a little steep. Blu-ray copies will run for $79.98 and DVD copies of the series will run for $59.99. Granted, HBO’s sets always run this expensively unless you catch them on sale, but I’m not sure HBO’s 10-episode drama has the re-watch value to justify the list price that some other programs, guilty pleasure True Blood included, may give viewers. Luckily, the series will also be available digitally, so if you just want to give it a whirl that may be your best option. I should also note the series comes with plenty of bonus features, which may help you to decide somewhat. Check out the full list of extras, below.
