The Originals Episode 9 Preview: Reigning Pain In New Orleans
This week on The Originals, a full-on war was waged. Not between the vampires and the witches, as the last few weeks have seemed to tease, but between Marcel and Klaus. Unsurprisingly, Klaus’ one-minded mission and brute desire to regain control over New Orleans helped him to earn his old house back. While I thought this war would likely take us through Season 1, the writers seem to have other ideas in the works. At least, that’s how it looks in the preview for next week’s episode 9, “Reigning Pain in New Orleans.”
The preview starts with Klaus at the dinner table. Haley’s also there, although she looks more annoyed then anything else. Then, there’s Marcel, who seems happy enough to have yielded to Klaus’ whim to take over New Orleans. Or maybe he’s just biding his time after Klaus went full subhuman werewolf last week and straight up murdered a bunch of his enemies. Either way, Klaus already seems to have moved on to another problem—the werewolves. He notes the wolves have become a problem and he’d like to officially take them down, which is a concept werewolf Haley is obviously unhappy about. I don’t know if this is Klaus’ hate of himself and the fact he’s a hybrid coming out or a more political play, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see where this plotline goes.
Next, we get to see a couple of scenes featuring characters who are attempting to appeal to Klaus and his more human nature. Honestly, these pitiful addresses seem pretty futile, as Klaus has proven time and time again that he really lacks empathy for humans, werewolves, witches, and vampires alike. His personal whims and concerns are the only things he cares about, and even the speech he gave to his two siblings after they “betrayed” him last week won’t change that.
The Originals has had a great run of episodes this month, putting together plenty of twists and turns in the plot to keep fans guessing. That’s probably the coolest thing about The Vampire Diaries spinoff. Sure, the location is fun and some of the other show’s best characters have transitioned over, but what really keeps me coming back every week is the fact that I have no idea where the drama is going.
On a side note, the whole sort-of relationship between Haley and Elijah is also teased in the preview. I don’t know where that is going, either, but since Haley is pregnant with Klaus’ baby, I’m sure that will be yet another reason to draw Klaus’ ire. We’ll find out soon enough. The CW’s The Originals will air next Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET. You can preview past episodes over at The CW’s site.
