Paranormal Activity 3's Chris Smith To Star In CBS Comedy Pilot Ex-Men

In what is arguably his biggest role to date, as Dennis, Chris Smith spent a lot of time off-camera in Paranormal Activity 3. Playing step-father, husband and wedding videographer "Dennis" in the found footage horror film, he was the man behind the camera for much of the movie. It seems likely that we'll see much more of him in the CBS comedy Ex-Men, should the pilot secure a series order from the Eye.

Deadline reports that Smith nabbed the starring role in Rob Greenberg's single-camera comedy pilot for CBS. Ex-Men "centers on a young guy (Smith) who finds camaraderie living among the more experienced guys he meets in a short-term rental complex." This is apparently a project that was first developed at CBS five years ago. As Deadline notes, CBS' early pilot order supports their mentioned commitment to single-camera series. Of the major networks, CBS seems to favor multi-camera comedies but given the ratings for shows like 2 Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, that isn't exactly hurting them. Still, it should be interesting to see how this one does at the network.

There's certainly potential in the premise of Ex-Men. CBS seems to think so as well, though we'll have to wait and see whether or not they give the pilot the green light to series. The network passed on Nick Stoller's Entry Level pilot, in which Smith co-starred. In addition to Paranormal Activity 3, Smith's credits include an episode of The Office and 30 Rock, and roles in Fake It Til You make It and Mayne Street.
