Pastors of L.A. Reality Series Headed To Oxygen

Oxygen is mostly known for its reality programming and on Monday the cable network announced it would be adding one more reality program to its ranks. Currently rolling with the working title Pastors of L.A., the new series will follow six pastors living in the Los Angeles area who have made a major impact on Southern California culture.

The reality drama is coming from Lemuel Plummer, who has also created and executive produced Vindicated for BET. As noted prior, the new series will take a look at six unique pastors and the stories that made those pastors who they are today. The series will look into the life of Bishop Noel Jones, a leader of a church full of celebrities who is looking for a successor, Deltrick Haddon, a preacher and songwriter who has to decide which life path he will take, and Bishop Clarence McClendon, whose weekly international broadcast reaches 250 million homes. Additionally, the series will also introduce audiences to Pastor Wayne Chaney, a man with a trouble family who is trying to turn his large congregation into a mega-church, Bishop Ron Gibson, who has built up a church and is now trying to build up a family, and Pastor Jay Haizlip, who remarkably was a skateboarding hero, became a crack addict, and now preaches in the district that was almost his undoing.

While the show seems a little similar to TLC's Preacher Wives idea, there seems to be a lot of excess and duties outside of religion listed in these plotlines, and it could be interesting to see inside the inner workings of churches run by powerful men. According to Oxygen, the series has been greenlighted for a fall 2013 release, which should prove to be a boon for the network’s ratings after Bad Girls All Star Battle ends its season and now that the special All My Babies’ Mamas is defunct. I'm just hoping the network adds "The Real" to the beginning of the show's title before it officially airs.
