Poster For HBO's The Newsroom: More As This Story Develops...
We've already seen numerous trailers for HBO's upcoming new drama series The Newsroom, and now the Aaron Sorkinwritten drama has a shiny new poster, which is light on image but heavy on words, and fittingly features the series star Jeff Daniels seated at his desk.
Created by The West Wing's Aaron Sorkin, The Newsroom stars Jeff Daniels and takes a behind-the-scenes look at a fictional news channel. Also among the cast are Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel and Sam Waterson. The trailers have already sold me on this series, so a poster just feels like dressing at this point, but I do like the arrangement, which sets Daniels' pensive looking character above the tagline "More as this story develops."
I like the layout as far as the ratio of star-to-everything else, which may be representative of how the series works, in that the news anchor is really only a small portion of what's going on in any given cable news program. Or in the one featured in this series, anyway.
And "More as this story develops" was actually the rumored title for the series, which later settled on The Newsroom. I think the phrase works much better as a tagline than it does a series title, and it works nicely on the poster, with a sort of double-meaning. It's a nod to the phrase news anchors say when sharing news on a developing story, and it's a fitting phrase to describe any show just starting out, as we hope to see The Newsroom developing its story nicely over the course of its first season. Time will certainly tell there.
The Newsroom premieres Sunday, June 24 at 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
