The last time I saw Pyramid, Joey Tribbiani had the category “Things that are found in the fridge.” When the clue “It’s white” was given, he screamed out, “Snow, paper, a ghost!” Joey might never be asked back on the show, but Pyramid will hit the daytime airwaves again real soon. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that CBS has ordered a pilot of the game show to replace the soon-to-be-cancelled soap opera As the World Turns. The new Pyramid (sans Donny Osmond or Dick Clark’s corpse) is one of two game shows filling the new timeslot.
Pyramid has been around in various forms since the mid-'70s; its last run coming with Osmond at the helm from 2002-2004. When Guiding Light was cancelled last year, CBS considered Pyramid to fill the timeslot, but ended up going with the Wayne Brady hosted Let’s Make a Deal instead.
The last version of Pyramid had prizes escalating up to $100,000. Here’s hoping the new one goes bigger and better (a cool million?). Because I know when I watch common people with money on the line, I want their fate tied directly to some B-list celebrity looking for a little face time with the camera.
