Ratings Wise, Blade Does Not Suck
I guess I wasn’t the only one who checked out the premiere of ‘Blade: The Series’. According to TV.com, 2.5 million other dudes did as well, though I highly doubt they were making the same snarky comments on fey vampirism as I was. The numbers delighted Spike TV executives, as they don’t see ratings like that very often. In fact, before Wednesday night the network had never had so many people watching it at the same time. To celebrate they’ve decided to rename the network to Blade TV and run it right into the ground because they don’t know how to handle success.
You can check out the premiere for free on iTunes, and Spike has said other episodes will be available for purchase in the coming weeks. I doubt this show will, forgive the term, spawn a fanbase as rabid as one of a ‘Lost’ or ‘Battlestar Galactica’, but its success could pave the way for grittier superhero shows. I’d like to see Geoff Johns take a turn at writing some more episodes, and perhaps we can see more talented writers from the world of comics make the transition.
