Ricky Gervais' Derek Hitting Netflix In September

Ricky Gervais' Derek offered fans a pilot over a year ago. Subsequently, a series was put together, which stars Gervais, Kerry Godliman, Karl Pilkington, and David Earl. In the U.K., Season 1 aired this past winter and the show was later renewed for a second season on Channel 4. This is great news for fans of Gervais stateside, who will be getting Derek via Netflix in the fall.

We’ve known for a while that Derek would head to Netflix after airing in the U.K.; however, we didn’t know when the move to Netflix would be happening. On Tuesday, it was announced that all seven episodes of Derek are set to hit Netflix on September 12. The date and time is extremely precise. Derek will hit the subscription streaming service at 12:01 a.m. PST on that day. Plus, according to Deadline, U.S. fans won’t be the only ones privy to the series. Other Netflix territories, including Canada, Ireland, Latin America, Brazil, and the Nordics will also be able to watch the first season of Derek, beginning on September 12.

Derek is an impressive effort, as Gervais plays the lead role in the comedy, as well as produces, directs, and writes the series, which follows a nursing home attendant named Derek, his two best friends, and a potential love interest named Hannah. The majority of the mockumentary takes place in the nursing home and follows the lives of the characters and random events that occur from day to day. You can catch a preview of the series or check out some outtakes, below.
