Rough Waves at Laguna Beach
What? ‘Laguna Beach’, MTV’s awesomely diabolical show, makes Orange County, California look bad? This can’t be. There must be some mistake. What about that show on FOX? That is worse, right?
Tell that to some parents of actual Orange County students. The New York Times reported that recently, some parents have commissioned the school board to stop allowing MTV to film at high schools. Apparently, MTV misled the school boards into thinking the filming was documentary in nature. This, of course, would be true if the documentary was on underage drinking, sex, partying, and teenage drama.
Now, parent groups are getting together to try and squash the Laguna Beach bug. They are saying that the show does not properly represent what Orange County is really about. Did you know they have art there? And culture? Here we were, thinking their best export was Kristin Cavalleri.
Don’t worry, though, ‘Laguna Beach’ will probably live on. The MTV show is a relative hit and viewers everywhere seem to have an insatiable need to live vicariously through 17-year old kids.
