Save The Cheerleader, Boost The Ratings
NBC finally managed to pull itself out of last place in the ratings war. The numbers are in and though ABC took the coveted first place spot in the battle that is “November Sweeps”, NBC managed to tie CBS for second place. This is no doubt; in large part due to the success of their new hit show ‘Heroes’.
With shows like ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Ugly Betty’ dominating their timeslots, ABC was a shoe-in for the first place spot. NBC making second place (even if they have to share it with CBS) marks a pretty significant comeback from dismal ratings the network suffered last season.
TV.com reported that ABC scored a 4.1 in the 18 to 49-year-old demographic and that the network says this is the first time they swept sweeps in seven years. Though shows like ‘Lost’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ have huge viewerships, it was ‘Dancing With The Stars’ that scored the highest ratings this season so far with over 27 million viewers.
Fox slid back behind NBC for third place but their ratings are likely to improve by May sweeps when ‘American Idol’ returns next year. TV.com stated that The CW hadn’t reported their numbers yet but that the network expects their ratings to be about 7 percent higher than the numbers The WB and UPN pulled in last year.
