Save Our Show: Pushing Daisies

It seems like things have been touch and go for a while now with Pushing Daisies. Rumors of the series impending cancellation have been circulating and while the show continues to go on, the Pie Maker isn’t out of the woods just yet. It’s not too late to save this series, people!

E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos says the fate of Pushing Daisies is still up in the air at the moment. “Pushing Daisies is not officially canceled, nor has a decision been made yet, but we have very little time to try and save it. Like one or two weeks, tops.” According to what Dos Santos reported, series creator Bryan Fuller say that ABC is in wait-and-see mode at the moment and that the network is waiting on a few factors. One of which is whether or not TV viewers check in with the series now that the election is over and things are getting back to normal on TV.

Pushing Daisies was off the air for a couple of weeks due to Dancing with the Stars and the Country Music Awards. The show returns this week with a new episode called “Oh, Oh, Oh… It’s Magic,” which features a guest appearance by the hilarious Fred Willard (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show).

Just to help you out if you haven’t ever seen the show but are willing to contribute to the ratings so that those of us who love the series can have it around for a bit longer, here’s a brief rundown of what the show is about. The series centers on Ned (Lee Pace), a pie maker with the unique ability of bringing dead people back to life. The rule is that by touching the deceased, they can return to life but if he lets them re-live for longer than a minute, someone or something will die in their place. To re-dead them he merely has to touch them again.

Ned uses this ability to bring crime victims back from the dead in order to question them about their death and hopefully solve the mystery. By the rules of his gift, on any given investigation, Ned has just under a minute to get some good information out of the reanimated victim’s body before he has to touch them again. With him is Charlotte “Chuck” Charles (Anna Friel), the love of Ned’s life. He saved her from death once and despite the whimsical romance that surrounds them, can never lay another finger on her lest he send her back to deadville. His friend Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) helps him with his investigations and Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth) is his mostly oblivious friend who works at The Pie Hole and occasionally assists with investigations.

The series has a sort of story book fairy-tale like feel to it. In addition to beautiful colors and an almost make-believe like atmosphere, the series is narrated by the amazing Jim Dale (listen to the audio version of the Harry Potter series for more of this man’s outstanding voice-over abilities).

I wouldn’t bother doing the above rundown if I didn’t believe Pushing Daisies was the type of show that viewers could jump into mid-series. So if you haven’t had the chance to check out the show yet, don’t feel like you’ll be lost if you do. It’s a truly unique, funny and often heartwarming series that deserves to stick around!

Pushing Daisies airs on Wednesday nights at 8:00 PM ET on ABC. Watch it so it doesn’t get cancelled, please! (Thanks in advance.)
