Sci-Fi Opens Doors of Warehouse 13
Remember that last scene of Raiders of The Lost Ark when they’re putting The Ark away, and as the camera pulls away, you see a warehouse filled with other artifacts that the government has acquired, and Dr. Jones is told that “top men” are working on it? Well, The Sci-Fi Channel has green-lit a pilot called Warehouse 13, which take a peek into what could have been the other crates in the scene, and the people who protect them.
According to Variety, Warehouse 13 will be a mix of comedy and drama, and will focus on two FBI agents as they are “promoted” to work at a top-facility in South Dakota. The partners, a man and woman, are assigned to both find new objects and retrieve missing ones from the vault and then lock them up. There will be a sci-fi twist in the possible romance between the agents when one of the objects brings the female’s ex-partner back from the dead (I like the X-Files/Pushing Daisiesblend).
The Sci-Fi Channel has not decided whether Warehouse 13 will develop into a full-time series. Executives at the channel say that they are looking for new projects that will have more stand-alone episodes, so they can attract more viewers to them, and Warehouse fits that bill. Sci-Fi programming VP Mark Stern said, “"It's a great mix of continuing stories and closed-ended ones. It's a nice, clean franchise."
Whether Sci-Fi has their next Battlestar Galactica remains to be seen. But it sounds like they are developing a cute series that will bring some of the geeks in, as well as the girls who love them. Maybe in one those crate in Warehouse 13, they’ll find the formula for a hit show.
