Scott Rosenbaum Lassos Sci-Fi Western For FOX
Chuck executive producer Scott Rosenbaum is heading west, young man. Fox has ordered a script for his untitled “epic sci-fi Western” series, from Warner Bros. TV and McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision. Hey, it’s been a good 15 years since Brisco County, so why not?
The Hollywood Reporter tells us the show will follow a “gunslinger caught between worlds” (none of which, one presumes, will include Dark Towers). Details are scarce at this early stage, but apparently Rosenbaum has been keen to do a SF/Western mash-up for some time now, and this one finally came to life out of a conversation with Chuck exec producer Peter Johnson, who will also be an EP on this new show along with Rosenbaum and McG. The only other nugget of substance is that the show will somehow tip its (10-gallon) hat to Planet of the Apes. So, what? It’ll all turn out to be a future Earth? Someone will be chastised to remove their damn dirty hands from someone else? As long as space monkeys are involved, they had me at hello.
At first glance, it sounds interesting. Still, there’s just something about it that seems ominous to me. Hmm…mixed-genre project? Geek-friendly elements likely to attract a die-hard following? Airing on Fox? Why does this all sound so familiar? Oh well, at least maybe we’ll get a DVD boxed set…
