Sherlock Returns To BBC One In January
When Sherlock first aired on BBC One in the summer of 2010, the series endeared itself to fans, but also won the 2011 BAFTA Television Award for Best Drama Series, which is fairly impressive, especially since Sherlock’s modern-day Watson and Holmes storyline only produced 3 segments. Granted, each of these episodes is like 90 minutes long, so we get to spend an extended period of time with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Holmes and Martin Freeman’s Doctor John Watson. Three 90-minute long winners, however, are not enough to keep our enthusiasm on hold into 2012.
Luckily, BBC One has finally announced the second series of Sherlock will begin on January 1, 2012. The second cycle will be formatted exactly like the first, with 3 90-minutes episodes aired in the upcoming months. The first episode, “A Scandal in Belgravia,” will follow Holmes and Watson as they become involved in a blackmail case surrounding some photographs. They storyline will heat up as a ruthless antagonist and even international terrorism comes into play. You can check out the full press release for Season 2 over at Bleeding Cool.
