New Shows Beef Up Casts With Mixed Results
Just because most of the new fall shows have premiered, doesn’t mean that casting is over. In fact, Big Shots, Bionic Woman and Journeyman have all added new faces to their rosters. While most of the actors may not have high name recognition, most of them you’ve seen before.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brando Eaton is playing the younger version of Journeyman’slead character, Dan Vassar. He has few credits under his belt, but was featured this season on an episode of The Closer. Bionic Woman is gaining Conviction star Jordan Bridges as a love interest for Jaime Sommers, while Big Shots is getting a one-two punch of Veronica Mars’ Ryan Devlin and Law & Order’s Elizabeth Rohm.
While Journeyman and Bionic Woman will probably be well served by their new castmembers, this news just reinforces my belief that Big Shots is probably doomed. Devlin, who’s playing an intern, was great as Mercer on Veronica Mars, but Big Shots has already gotten less than stellar reviews and if Vaughn, AKA Hot English Teacher AKA Michael Vartan can’t save it, I highly doubt Devlin can.
Adding to Big Shot's bleak prospects is the fact that they’ve cast Elizabeth Rohm as Vartan’s love interest. As assistant DA Serena Southerlyn, Rohm turned in a performance so wooden that during outdoor shoots birds often tried to build nests on her. True story. All I’m saying is L&O writers wouldn’t have saddled her with an exit line as ridiculous as “is it because I’m a lesbian?” if they weren’t thrilled that she was high-tailing it out of there. So, good luck with that, Big Shots.
Bionic Woman is on NBC Wednesdays at 9 PM, Journeyman is Mondays at 10 PM on NBC and ABC is hosting the Big Shots death watch Thursdays at 10 PM.
