Showtime Takes A BuZzSaw To Hollywood

It's always great to see good guys succeed. Too bad it doesn't happen more often. But in this case the good guy is former CinemaBlend.com staff writer Bill Beyrer. Bill has just gotten his own TV show.

It's called Hollywood BuZzSaw, and it's the Showtime Network's latest entry into the celebrity/entertainment news game. The show will air sporadically between regularly scheduled Showtime programming, kind of like an intermission. Bill's role will be to let "loose on show business with a New York attitude you're not likely to see or hear on Access Hollywood or E!" Probably because no one watches "Access Hollywood" or "E!". I predict that people will however watch this.

The show will amount to the usual slate of movie news, critiques, interviews, and editorials you'd expect from an entertainment show, but with a more real, cynical twist courtesy of Bill. For instance, instead of showing up at press junkets with a microphone, they'll take a cue from the great Jon Favreau show "Dinner for 5" and drag their celebrities out into the real world of local "dive" bars. Darts will be thrown and beer will be consumed. Unlike the "Insiders" of the television landscape, it sounds like they may not be targeting the generic house frau. Good for them.

Bill's a funny, in your face guy. He's perfect to anchor a show that, as he describes it in the press release, is "Just hangin out". Maybe if we're lucky, this will lead to even bigger and better things for Bill. It sounds like he's found the right kind of format to make his break. Keep an eye out for Bill Beyrer and "Hollywood BuZzSaw" on Showtime starting May 22nd.
