Ski Channel To Traverse In '08
I have over six hundred channels encompassing a wide range of subject matters fitting to any of my possible moods. I once spent two hours watching competitive racquetball. Why not? It was on. There’s something reassuring about knowing you can grab the remote and turn on almost anything from The Benchwarmers to old reruns of ‘The People’s Court.’ Hell, some form of ‘Law and Order’ is on at least twenty two hours a day. It’s beautiful. Unfortunately, none of the six hundred odd channels provided an outlet from my deep-seeded skiing obsession. Thank God, that’s about to change.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, executives from The Tennis Network are ready to launch Ski Channel. That’s not a joke. Apparently, someone out there feels Americans would like to spend their free time watching other people speed down a hill. Normally, I would make some witty, condescending statement about skiing’s place in the overall scheme of sports (behind Bocce Ball and above snorkeling), but after the success of the UFC and backyard wrestling, I really don’t know what to believe.
Executives have already reached a deal with Time Warner Cable, so look for this to pop up on your “TV Guide” sometime next year.
