The Starter Wife Premieres Thursday Night

Divorce is messy. In Hollywood, it’s even messier. All it takes is one Dear John letter or bad phone call for a woman to go from A-lister to blacklisted. USA plans to showcase this fairy-tale-gone-bad in a six-hour miniseries titled ‘The Starter Wife.’ Debra Messing will star in the series, which premieres on USA tomorrow night.

In ‘The Starter Wife,’ Messing will play Molly Kagan, wife to a successful movie studio exec. She has everything from memberships to exclusive clubs to access to the trendiest restaurants. Then one day her husband leaves her, just shy of their 10-year anniversary. The ten-year mark is a big year for rich people because generally, that’s when the prenup expires. Such was the case for Molly Kagan. Her husband leaves her and causes her to instantly lose her status. No more red-carpet walks. No more pilates. Even some of her close friends abandon her.

Rather than wallowing in a one-bedroom apartment paging through the help-wanted ads, Molly decides to spend the summer at a friend’s beach house and get by with a little help from her friends.

‘The Starter Wife’ screams girl-power; jam packed with all of the glitter and tarnish of Hollywood social etiquette. It looks like the kind of story ‘Desperate Housewives’ fans would love. If you can enjoy watching women down-and-out one minute then back on top the next, chances are, ‘The Starter Wife’ is right up your alley.

‘The Starter Wife’ premieres on USA on Thursday, May 31st at 9:00 PM EST.
