Sunday Night Drama Queen: Entourage
Sunday night’s episode of ‘Entourage’ ended on a very sour note. Just as things were looking up for Vince’s acting career, Ari messes it up by not handling the “Bob situation” well at all. Drama deals with his anxiety the old-fashioned way and Turtle and Vince drive all over LA trying to get Turtle a pair of limited edition Nikes.
Poor Drama. It’s the first day of shooting for the pilot of Ed Burn’s new TV show and Drama’s suffering from anxiety. Turtle recommends dealing with it with a little “self-gratification”. Drama shrugs off the advice and goes to the set but when Ed Burns tells Drama they’re making some changes to his monologue, Drama gets even more anxious.
When his mantra, “You are not a p***y” doesn’t work for him, he takes Turtles advice and heads back to his trailer for a bit of “alone time” (I really hope the quoted phrases are getting the point across here). Drama grabs a copy of Maxim and goes to work, forgetting that he’s left his microphone on. The entire crew, including Ed Burns gets to hear Drama relieving himself of his anxiety. Drama goes on to film his monologue and when Burns asks him to act embarrassed, Drama cant evoke the emotion. Burns whispers to Drama what the crew heard which inspires a perfect embarrassed reaction and everyone is happy (except for Drama whose humiliated).
Vince and Turtle head out to try to get Turtle a pair of Limited Edition Nikes. There’s a huge line outside the shoe store and Vince refuses Turtle’s pleas to cut the line. The store runs out of the shoes but says there’s a few left at the other Nike store. Vince tries to make a deal over the phone with the clerk at the store but when he arrives there, the last pair was given to DJ AM, another “sneaker head” (as described by Turtle). The guys leave the store defeated.
Ari and Eric head off to the studio to pitch the Ramones movie. Ari gets upset when Eric tells him he invited Bob to the pitch. The pitch does not go well at all and Ari blames Bob for talking too much and doing magic tricks. Eric tries to diffuse the situation as best he can and the three agree that Bob wont talk at the next pitch. Ari tells Bob that the next meeting is at Disney Studios. They leave and Ari tells Eric that he lied to Bob and that the next meeting is really at Universal.
The pitch goes well at Universal but Bob, who showed up at Disney to find out there was no meeting is really angry at Ari and Eric for ditching him. Eric tries to get in touch with Bob but he wont answer his phone. Finally Lloyd gets Bob on the phone with Eric and Ari and Bob tells them he sold the rights to the movie to Warners. He also mentions that Warners hates Vince.
The episode ends with Vince taking Turtle to a dangerous-looking area of the city. He hands Turtle a very fat envelope and tells him to go in and ask for Jimmy. Turtle confronts the group of formidable looking Asian men and they take him inside where he meets the designer of the limited edition Nikes. Turtle hands him the envelope and is nearly speechless when the guy gives Turtle a one-of-a-kind set of sneakers.

Vince justifies the purchase to Eric by saying they’re “art you can wear” and admits that the shoes cost him more than $5000. It is at that time that Eric gets the call from Bob about selling I Wanna Be Sedated to Warners. Turtle gets back in the car all-gleeful with his new shoes then asks Vince what’s wrong. Vince says “Oh nothing, I just spent 20 grand on sneakers and I don’t have a job”.
Will there be any way for Ari and Eric to get Sedated back for Vince? There’s a part of me that’s hoping Bob was lying when he said he sold the movie but the rational side to me knows that’s probably not the case. Has anyone noticed a pattern going on here though? Vince can’t seem to get a new role due to his and his people’s inability to play ball with the Hollywood people. Its somewhat admirable that the guys don’t seem to want to go along with the politics of the industry but sooner or later they’re going to have to stop burning bridges if they want to stay in the game.
