TLC Orders Preacher Wives Reality Series From Real Housewives Of Atlanta Team

We’ve got Sister Wives, and of course all of the Real Housewives, so now TLC has decided it’s time to find some new wives to let us spy on. They’ve ordered a series that focuses on the wives of important religious figures, called Preacher Wives. Remember when TLC was actually the “learning channel” and not the voyeur channel?

EW reports that the new series comes from the Real Housewives of Atlanta team and will look at the behind the scenes efforts of the women who stand behind the men who stand at the pulpit. The series will also take place in Atlanta. I confess to a sigh of frustration reading this news, because I’d really like to know why all of these series have to focus on women as wives, instead of perhaps something that shows us what women can do on their own. Certainly there must be some fascinating women who are religious leaders in their own right? Although the series is described as focusing on “women with leadership roles in the city’s religious community”, the title still says they are only leaders because of who they married.

TLC will continue its trend of creating shows that give viewers a voyeuristic look into the secret lives of quirky and sometimes downright odd people. Toddlers and Tiaras and Hoarders are among the train wrecks the network has people tuning in to see. Perhaps they should change the network to “The You’ll Feel Better About Your Life After Watching These People Channel.” Too long?
