TV Recap: 24 - 3:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.
Disarming nuclear bombs, killing terrorists, sacrificing yourself for the good of the country--it's just another day in the life of heroic CTU agent Jack Bauer, and since it's Monday night, we got another hour of Jack on '24' to feast on. And what's even better? A surprise guest at the end, of course!
Thank God the Fox promo-monkeys didn't screw up with that surprise guest. Instead, pretty much everything we saw in the promo from last week was shown in the first act. I was actually pleasantly surprised that Jack found out that his father, Philip, was a true weasel so quickly. Better than drawing us out forever and ever.
Jack managed to convince Marilyn Bauer, his sister-in-law (and ex-lover, it looks like), to get the location of where Philip was holding her son, Josh, so they could ambush him. Of course, it turned out that Philip was already a few steps ahead of Jack. Things ended up so that Jack switched places with Josh, who was free to leave with his mom. And, of course, just when we thought that Philip would kill Jack, he...ran out? So, weasel and coward? OK then. Philip didn't leave without any clues behind, though.
Before I talk about the clue, let's go over what else happened on a pretty Jack-heavy episode. Tom Lennix, the evil little Presidential adviser, turned out to have a smidgen of conscience when he tried to tell the Secret Service of the plan to kill President Palmer. Too bad his fellow aide, Reed, was ready to knock him out with a flashlight. Well, evil is as evil does, I guess. Finally, in the "how else can we fill time?" subplot, CTU computer geek Morris is still guilt-tripping over having helped set off another suitcase bomb. Could his alcoholic tendencies be springing up again? Who knows; I do know that this subplot needs to end. It needs to end now.
So, that clue Philip left. It was a phone number, which leads to Jack to the only man who can lead him to the Russian nationalist, Gredenko, the man behind the bombs, even moreso than Fayed. So, who's on the other end of the phone? Why, ex-President Charles Logan! Thank God. I mean, this season is kickass so far, but add in Logan, and things are bound to get even better.
Can it be next Monday yet? Don't forget to check back at TV Blend next week for another recap of the Jack Bauer Power Hour, '24.'
