TV Recap: Big Brother 10 - Week 3 Veto

Yet another screaming match involving Jerry ensued during tonight’s Veto episode of Big Brother. And of course there was a Veto competition, which involved live earth worms (yuck!) and dripping water. Finally, Keesha’s loyalty was put to the test when Jessie tried to get her to put Libra up in his place.

It wasn’t a bad strategy on Jessie’s part. He decided to single out Libra as being to blame for persuading him to put Steven up. Here’s the problem I have with Jessie’s attitude. His argument is that Libra made him put Steven up. Now granted, saying that helps take the blame off of him and it’s a game so pretty much anything you can do to scrape the target off your own back and slap it down on someone else’s is good but seriously, Jessie was HoH! If Keesha is proving anything this week it’s that in the end, the Head of Household is alone with their decision. Whether or not Keesha will pay for her HoH decisions this week, only time will tell.

For the Veto competition, six participating houseguests had to lie in a tub of dirt as drops of cold water sprinkled down on their foreheads. The goal of the game was to stay in the tub for as close to an hour without going over. Not having access to a clock, the houseguests had to rely on instinct (or counting abilities) to determine how long they’ve been in the tub. They complained about the water drippage but things didn’t get really bad until the non-participating houseguests poured earthworms into their tubs. Live earthworms. Now I’m not with Ollie on the whole “cursed” thing but anything that squirms around without the use of arms or legs freaks me out. I would’ve done exactly what Keesha did, which was give up and climb out of the tub.

Later the houseguests were covered with compost and as vile as that must have smelled, lying out in the hot California sun, I’d still rather have that on me than squiggly, squirmy worms. Libra inevitably climbed out of her tub and shared a brief, awkward conversation with Keesha and Jessie in which Jessie attempted to point out that it was Libra who wanted Steven gone. Libra admitted to it but apparently she and Keesha had already discussed that issue after Jessie brought it to Keesha in the first place. Or that’s how it appeared because Keesha, who seemed to be considering putting Libra up, was unaffected by Jessie’s comments. Finally, everyone else climbed out of their tubs and as it turned out, all of them waited too long. Keesha won because with her 20-something minutes of tub-time, she was the only one who didn’t go over an hour.

So Keesha has all the power and everyone on Jessie’s alliance, including Angie, is trying to get her to remove Jessie and put Libra up. It seemed that the more Keesha thought about it, the more she realized that putting Libra up would be breaking her word, since the two allied back in the first week. It’s not always a good strategy to break your word in the BB house because that can come back to bite you. Since it appears that Jessie will be gunning for Keesha next week, she’ll at least have Libra on her side. Libra admitted to owing Keesha one after the Veto ceremony took place and Keesha opted to keep the nominations the same.

In other drama, someone flew a banner over the BB house while some of the houseguests were outside relaxing and sun bathing. It was impossible to read the banner but according to some of the houseguests (including Michelle and Memphis), the banner said Libra and (someone) is a liar – love Steven. Whether or not that’s actually what it said or whether it was Steven who was really behind it, who knows? It didn’t sway Keesha’s decision to keep the noms the same but it did inspire a fight between Jerry and Memphis. Earlier, Jerry called Memphis a womanizer. I’m not sure what he’s basing this opinion on but he said it and it got back to Memphis. Memphis didn’t appreciate it and decided to bring it up when they were all sitting around discussing the banner. Someone had to actually hold him back when he started to get in Jerry’s face. Jerry, realizing that this guy probably isn’t going to punch him, just sat there with his hands behind his head.

And the last little twist of the episode: America’s Player is back! Only for one week though. You can vote for who you want to be America’s Player at CBS’s website. Sure, there’s a nice cash prize for being America’s Player but it can do more harm than good for a person’s game. It’ll be interesting to see who America picks and how they handle it. Also, who will get evicted? Jessie or Angie? Apparently Big Brother is moving back to Thursday nights so we’ll find out then.
