TV Recap: Big Brother 10 - Week 7 Eviction And HoH
Here’s the thing about Renny. She wasn’t great at the Big Brother game in terms of strategy. She played emotionally and rarely tucked her feelings away when it came to certain houseguests. She proved to be somewhat of a loose cannon and that’s part of the reason her time in the Big Brother house was cut short. All of that said, she was one of the most charismatic and interesting people in the house this year and I was sad to see her go.
While I would’ve preferred Jerry to be evicted this week, his HoH win prevented that and instead it will be Renny who has to go to Casa Del Big Brother Losers. After seeing what’s going on in the Jury house, I think it might be more humane to put Renny up in a hotel or something rather than sending her to that bitter household. Before we get to the Jury house, let’s talk about Memphis.
Memphis has yet to win a Head of Household and he hasn’t really gotten much screen time in the filler-packages that Big Brother features during the live episodes. Tonight Memphis’ (gorgeous) girlfriend of three years was featured and she had some nice things to say about her boyfriend. Memphis’ friend also spoke kindly of him, adding that he was glad Memphis got upset over Jerry calling him a womanizer earlier in the season. We saw a clip of Memphis talking to Dan about how his father was married five times and that was why the womanizer comment really upset him. He’s worked hard not to be that kind of person and didn’t appreciate Jerry’s insult, understandably so.
Jerry’s gotten a pretty good edit in the episodes but feedwatchers know he’s said some pretty despicable things about a number of the houseguests. He also has a tendency to fudge the truth when it suits him. So while it was unsurprising that Jerry made an effort to turn Dan, Memphis and Keesha against one another, it’s also not that surprising that the three of them were hesitant to take much of what he said seriously. Though I was amused seeing Memphis look at Keesha and Dan and say “You know that’s not true” in response to hearing that Jerry told both of them that Memphis has deals with everyone in the house. I said this in Tuesday’s recap and I’ll say it again: I really wish they had thought bubbles above the houseguests’ heads during these secret conversations. If there were, we probably would’ve seen “Well, you definitely have a deal with me…” above both Keesha and Dan’s heads.
Renny and Keesha didn’t spend the week campaigning against each other. Renny knew it was probably a sure thing that she would be walking out the door tonight and she and Keesha spent some quality time together. At one point Renny told Keesha she should be a mother and the two shared a hug. I know it’s totally touchy-feely but I can’t help but be moved by the relationship these two have formed. In a game that’s so cutthroat, they managed to stay friends throughout.
We finally got to see the sequester house tonight and just as I expected, it’s full of bitter people who still haven’t gotten over being beaten. Well, to be fair, Libra seemed to be the most level headed about her defeat, from what we were shown. When they watched the endurance competition, Michelle and April made nasty remarks about Keesha’s weight. April said something about her not losing any weight and Michelle threw in a jibe about Keesha gaining fifteen pounds in her ass. This after complimenting herself about how good she thinks she looks on camera. I had to laugh at April’s remark about leaving the house with her dignity. Perhaps she doesn’t yet know that her recreational time with Ollie between the sheets is splattered all over youtube.
Before the live vote, Renny said nice things about Keesha and then added that in her own defense, the two voting houseguests should consider which person they think they stand a better chance of winning against in the final two. That fact wasn’t lost on Dan and Memphis, who surely knew they stood little to no chance of winning if they were up against Renny. All the same, it was a good effort on Renny’s part but even she knew there was nothing she could say to save herself tonight. Dan and Memphis both voted to evict her, bringing the house population down from five to four.

Renny took her eviction like a champ, stopping outside the door to smile at everyone and shake hands. She then sat with Julie and talked about how proud she is to be sitting there and hopes America sees what a loving person she is. The goodbye messages including Dan and Memphis saying nice things about her, Jerry complimenting her cooking (which inspired Renny to give the thumbs-down at him) and Keesha tearfully thanking her for her friendship.
The Head of Household competition had to do with pictures of past competitions that were displayed on the “Memory Wall” earlier in the day. From what I read of the feed-recaps, Dan spent a lot of time staring at the pictures while Keesha barely looked at them. I’m pretty sure they all knew the pictures would play a part in tonight’s competition but perhaps Keesha was either too sad or too nervous to bother paying much attention to them. It definitely hurt her in tonight’s HoH competition.
Jerry was outgoing HoH so he couldn’t play. Julie asked Memphis, Dan and Keesha true/false questions based on what was shown in the photos. Dan’s studying paid off as he got every question right. Memphis missed one or two and Keesha only got two right. So Dan is this week’s HoH and what’s more, he’s guaranteed a spot in the final three. This week’s Veto will be vital for one of the houseguests. Whoever wins it will go on to the final three and (unless it’s Dan who wins it) will be the deciding vote in the final-four eviction. Since I want to see Dan in the final two (even though the majority of the jury seems to despise him), I’m glad he’s won immunity for the week. Now I just hope Memphis will win the Veto so the Renegades will still have a shot to make it to the final two together.
The houseguests returned into the house after the HoH competition to find a sumo wrestler sitting in their living room. The man spoke Japanese, telling them that he’s sitting on the information they need for this week’s luxury competition. I’m sure they’ll get the information sooner or later and it will be interesting to see what prize(s) the houseguests could win. With only four of them left, it’s nice to see Big Brother giving them something to do between now and the next competition.
Now on to speculation: I’m guessing Dan will nominate Keesha and Jerry as that is what he promised Memphis he’d do if he were to win HoH. He has no reason to go back on his promise anyway since Memphis is his closest ally. It should also be noted that Memphis mentioned earlier in the diary room that there’s no one he trusts more than Dan. But with Renny out of the picture, he could get closer to Keesha.
As I said earlier, it’s all going to come down to the Veto. If Jerry wins it, Memphis, whom Jerry isn’t happy with since he used the Veto to save Dan, is probably as good as gone. If Keesha wins it, it’s possible she’ll side with Jerry on the whole “Memphis has a deal with everyone” thing and give Memphis the boot. At this point, that might not be a bad move for her since she still has a good chance of either Jerry or Dan taking her to the end but she might prefer not to ruffle feathers and take her chances against Dan and Memphis. If Dan wins it, he’ll probably keep his nominations the same. And finally, if Memphis wins it, he’ll probably vote to evict Jerry since he stands a much greater chance of Keesha taking him to the final two than he does Jerry (unless he still thinks Jerry’s final-two deal is good). Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out!
