TV Recap: Big Brother - The Final Two

Well, the final three were narrowed down to two on tonight’s episode of Big Brother. If you were keeping up with the live feeds (or at least, reading the recaps) this week then you probably weren’t very surprised by how things went down tonight. The final Head of Household competition took place and one houseguest was sent packing, leaving the final two to ponder over which one of them will be able to win over the jury.

Before we get to that though, we got to see some more of the jury house shenanigans. Natalie seems settled in well enough at the sequester house. While Matt chums it up with Josh, Natalie complains that Matty’s mean to her. Go figure. The more things change, the more they stay the same, right? At least Matt’s consistent. That portion of the sequester house was predictable but what stood out most was when, after Sharon arrived and popped in her eviction DVD, the houseguests noted that Ryan gave Adam a little nod behind Sharon’s back as she walked out the door. If Sharon believes Ryan betrayed her by helping orchestrate her eviction, it definitely won’t help him with the jury.

And yes, Ryan made the final two so he will need to convince the jury that he played a good game. Tonight we got to see how the first part of the HoH competition played out. Ryan, Adam and Sheila were kneeling on boogie boards and being doused with water while hanging on to a rope thingy. After about half an hour, Sheila gave up. After that there was no reason or Ryan and Adam to keep going. Adam dropped and Ryan won the right to compete in the final Head of Household comp. As both promised to take the other to the end, this was a victory for both of them.

In the second part of the head of household competition, Sheila and Adam each had to use a giant guinea pig wheel to help release different balls from a giant maze. They then had to put the balls (which were labeled with different houseguests’ names) in the order that each of them won HoH. Adam’s time blew Sheila’s out of the water and he took the second part of the HoH comp. The third part of the competition took place live tonight.

Now having actually watched some of the feeds, I saw Adam privately assuring Sheila that he’d take her to the final two if he won the final HoH. Then when Sheila was in the diary room, he and Ryan celebrated the fact that they were going to the final two together no matter what. Adam even said he’d throw the competition to Ryan just to avoid having to evict Sheila. So tonight’s final Head of Household competition wasn’t that surprising, however given the subjective nature of the questions (and the fact that neither Ryan nor Adam did very well with the comp), there was still a very good chance that Adam might accidentally win and be forced to choose between his bro and his ho (ok, Sheila’s hardly a ho but it rhymes.) He didn’t win though. Ryan won and after Sheila made one last blubbering attempt to beg for a chance in the final two (promising gratefulness in return), Ryan evicted her and stayed true to his word to take Adam to the end.

Sheila cried her way through the interview with Julie and then watched the goodbye messages from Adam and Ryan. Ryan was polite in his farewell speech and Adam for some reason, said something about feeling bad if he was the one to evict her. I wonder if she caught that and will question whether he was considering evicting her had he won the Head of Household competition tonight.

So that leaves Ryan and Adam to compete for the big prize of $500,000. I’m guessing that unless Ryan can assure Sharon that he did really try to convince Adam to keep her, he doesn’t have the best chances of winning Big Brother 9. Then again, Chelsia called Adam spineless when she left the house and could still be harboring some ill will towards him. Plus Adam has a tendancy to talk too much (case in point: his good bye message to Sheila tonight), which could cause him to shoot himself in the foot with the jury. It’s really too close to call. Guess we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out on Sunday night’s finale.
