TV Recap: Big Brother - Week 10 Eviction

Another week of Big Brother is done and another houseguest heads to sequester. And speaking of sequester, the mini-drama involving Chelsia and James at the sequester house was easily the best part of tonight’s episode. Though I’m guessing by the other brief clips we saw of the sequestered houseguests, who appeared to be catching up on their reading and exercise, it doesn’t get very exciting there. Meanwhile, someone got voted off tonight and a new head of household took over.

Before we got to the live portion of the show, we got to see James’ entrance into the sequester house. Naturally, Chelsia was sad to see James walk through the door because obviously, she wanted to see her man make it to the final two. The sadness didn’t end with James’ arrival though. After viewing the DVD of the previous week’s competitions, Matt, Chelsia and Josh saw that Adam gave James a chance to stay by not nominating him for eviction right away. James made a point to tell Chelsia that it was her good-bye speech (the one where she called out some of the houseguests) that sealed his fate in the house. Now this might be at least partially true but technically, I don’t think it was just the speech that did James in. I’m pretty sure Chelsia’s attitude in the house had a negative impact on how they perceived James even before the speech. And while I’m not sure I’d say that this was the entire reason for James’ eviction, it definitely didn’t help him win over some of the other houseguests even after Chelsia left. After making Chelsia cry by blaming her for his eviction, James went and cuddled with her and told her he’s ok not winning the money. Things between them seemed to be fine after that.

It was Sheila’s plan to get Natalie out of the house this week. Since she caught wind that Natalie was coming after her, she wanted to take advantage of her HoH reign this week by backdooring Natalie. All was going to plan until nice-guys Adam and Ryan started to have doubts over whether getting rid of Natalie was the best plan for them. The two guys started up a house meeting and called Natalie out for playing both sides. At this point, Natalie’s already on the block next to Sharon and Sheila doesn’t get a vote (unless there’s a tie) so her best bet is obviously to take the guys’ side. In front of Sheila and Sharon, Natalie tells the guys that she lied to the two women but she never lied to them and that her loyalty lies with them. Strategically, this is all she could do. If she sides with the women, the only thing she stands to gain is a vote from Sheila in the event of a tie but then again, siding with the women would’ve pretty much ensured that both guys voted to evict her so Sheila’s vote would be worthless.

And that brings us to our live show. There seemed to be a bit of flip-flopping on the feeds and I wasn’t totally keeping up with what Adam and Ryan were planning to do tonight so I was surprised when the two voted differently. Ryan voted to evict Natalie and Adam voted to evict Sharon. Sheila broke the tie and sent Natalie packing. Natalie seemed devastated and somewhat surprised when she sat down to talk to Julie during her exit interview. I’m guessing that Adam and Ryan decided to force a tie and make Sheila be the one to evict Natalie. This is probably the best strategy for them because Natalie could end up resenting Sheila and letting Ryan and Adam off the hook. The only person with a smaller target on her back is Sharon. Being on the block week after week and never in the position to decide who stays and who goes will surely benefit her if she makes it to the final two.

The Head of Household competition was a true/false comp involving things like whether or not the guinea pig toy in the tank means something in terms of the game (it doesn’t). There was also a trick question. When Julie asked if there were any other pre-existing relationships still in the house, the answer turned out to be true (or “fact”). Then at the bottom of the screen it said, “(The guinea pigs).” This allowed Ryan to tie with Sharon and the two competed in a tie-breaker question. They had to guess the total combined minutes that all four of the houseguests stayed inside their glass boxes in last week’s endurance comp. Sharon guessed 184 and Ryan guessed 310. Since the winning number was 557, Ryan won Head of Household.

From here on out, it’s all about the Veto competition. Whoever wins it this week will decide who makes the final three and which houseguest goes to sequester. And I’m guessing the houseguests are going to spend the better part of the next few days trying to figure out which two remaining houseguests are a pre-existing couple. That should make things interesting.
