TV Recap: Big Brother - Week 4 Eviction

Well, the pot was definitely stirred on tonight’s episode of Big Brother. We learned earlier in the week that at some point in the BB house, a siren would go off and the houseguests would have to convene in the living room to learn about a big twist in the game. The siren went off during the live show and turned the game around for one of the contestants.

Before we get to that, let’s talk about some of the stuff that’s been going on in the house. We’ve seen a number of segments in recent episodes showcasing Matt and Natalie’s relationship. It’s actually not really a relationship but rather, more like a cycle of him being nice to her, her clinging, him pushing her away and her getting upset and want to talk about it. Enough already!

Matt’s coming off as a pretty arrogant guy in the episodes, so it brought a smile to my face tonight to see James’ realization of Matt’s slippery strategy to secure the nominated couple’s confidence. As Ryan/Allison and Adam/Sheila were on the block this week, Matt decided to tell both couples (or rather, the men of both couples) that they had his vote. He figured one of the couples would be evicted and the couple that remained would be so grateful for Matt’s generosity in giving them his vote that he’d come out looking like the hero. Of course, Matt hadn’t counted on James catching on to his plan.

James and Chelsia made no commitments as to where their vote would go but since only two couples were voting, it was obviously important for them to know which way Matt and Natalie were leaning (to avoid a tie that could leave them looking like the odd-couple-out). When James learned that Matt promised his vote to both couples, he called him out on it in front of Ryan, Adam and Sheila (not sure if Allison was there for that). It was clear that Matt was angry at James for openly exposing his plan like that. He tried to keep his cool though, saying “It’s Big Brother.” Well he’s right about that much. His plan backfiring would’ve been the highlight of the episode for me if it weren’t for the big siren twist.

So let’s get to that part. The two voting couples voted to evict Ryan and Allison. After saying their goodbyes, the couple approached the door but it wouldn’t open. The siren went off and everyone freaked out. Josh looked horrified, while Allison screamed, hugs were exchanged and there was a bit of chaos. There was more celebrating when Julie told them that they would no longer be playing as couples. After the houseguests had time to settle down, Julie explained to them that either Ryan or Allison would be evicted on their own tonight. It wasn’t surprising at all that the house voted unanimously to evict Allison.

During her exit interview, Allison, who was obviously upset after getting evicted, then thinking she was safe then getting evicted again all in the span of about seven minutes admitted that it was a mistake to lie about being in a lesbian relationship with Sheila.

Still reeling from the twist, the houseguests went out back to do the Head of Household competition. Josh still looked like he was in a total state of shock. You’d think he’d be relieved that Allison was gone but I suppose seeing three of the four people he (and Sharon) nominated for eviction last week still in the house and ready to compete for HoH probably made him feel a bit uneasy. This week’s competition involved the houseguests answering questions about the order things happened in the house. One question knocked most the contestants out of the competition and it came down to Ryan and Adam. It seemed like it could go either way when both got the wrong answer to a question but Ryan ended up winning HoH in the end. I love it when this stuff happens. Ryan was literally on his way out the door tonight and now not only is he not evicted, but he’s completely safe this week.

And finally, there’s another twist. America gets to vote one of the evicted houseguests back into the house. Obviously the houseguests have no idea about this twist and it’s probably for the best. I think it’s going to take them at least a few days to get used to not having a partner in the game.

And with that, I leave you with this poll:
