TV Recap: Big Brother - Week 5 Eviction
Was it me or did it seem like it took forever to get the live portion of the episode on tonight’s episode of Big Brother? I suppose it had to do with the fallout from the Veto ceremony, added to the anticipation of tonight’s eviction and seeing the reaction of the houseguests when they learn that one of the evicted houseguests would be returning to the house tonight.
The episode starts by showing us some of the drama that followed the veto ceremony. After Ryan put James up on the block to replace Chelsia, emotions were running high. Chelsia, who has proven in the past to be fairly hot-headed when it comes to people she doesn’t like, went off on Ryan for betraying them. Ryan turned it around on her and brought up the fact that they were trying to manipulate him. After that mini-blowout, Ryan privately smoothed things over with Josh.
For some reason, Sharon decided to tell Sheila (the BB9 gossip queen) about her make-out session with Matt. Sheila relayed this information to Natalie, who was obviously displeased to learn about this. The two agreed it might be better if Sharon were voted out. They share this idea to James who is obviously onboard with it. Then Natalie and Matt have a fight over Matt’s possible feelings for Sharon. I’m sick of the mess that is Mattalie.
Anyway we finally get to the live show and after Sheila gets to see some video of herself prancing and posing in her red unitard, paired with videos of Jen behaving similarly when she wore the skintight outfit, Julie does her usual random questions to some of the houseguests. Following this, she reveals to us and the evicted houseguests (Jacob, Jen, Parker, Alex, Amanda and Allison) that America voted for one of them to return but the house will decide if they want to bring back tonight’s evicted houseguest or the mystery person (America’s Choice). She then says that though Parker was the second place choice, Alex won the majority of the votes.
After this, we move on the eviction. No time for live voting. Julie tells James that he’s been voted out. Only one person (assuming it’s Chelsia) voted for him to stay. Everyone except Chelsia stays on the couch as James makes his way for the door. James explains later in his exit interview that he asked them not to get up when he left. He also acknowledges that he never thought he’d connect with someone the way he has with Chelsia on a reality TV show. Chelsia brought that up as well in her tearful goodbye message to him.
In the house, the siren goes off and the houseguests look shocked as they rush to the living room. After the break Julie tells them about the twist and the houseguests go into the diary room one by one to vote live. While Ryan, Matt and Sheila vote to bring in the mystery houseguest, the rest of the house chooses to bring back James. We get more commercials and when we come back, there’s a giant box in the middle of the BB living room. Judging by the looks on Chelsia and Adam’s faces, it seems like they’re pretty sure James is in the box. Sure enough, he pops out, swears a bit (I’m assuming since whatever he said was censored) and they all cheer. Everyone heads outside for the HoH contest.
It’s an endurance competition this week. All of the houseguests (except for Ryan, who isn’t eligible to play this week) climb onto small platforms and grab onto a chain. The thing above them raises up, taking them with it and begins to slowly rotate. Disco balls dangle below each platform. The houseguests have to remain standing on the platform as it rotates. They all get situated and Julie tells James the vote count but doesn’t reveal which houseguests voted for him to come back. The episode ends with the houseguests slowly rotating and getting sprayed with champagne. I have the live feeds though so if you want to know what happened after the episode ended, read on. And if you don’t want to be spoiled, read no further!

When the feeds come back up, Adam (who didn’t look that comfortable on the disco ball thing) and Josh are both down. Within the next 10 or 15 minutes, Matt comes down. This leaves Natalie, Sharon, James, Sheila and Chelsia still in the game. Sheila comes down next. That’s where we’re at as of almost 10 p.m. EST.
10:47 pm EST: James, Sharon, Natalie and Chelsia are all still up on their disco ball platforms.
11:17 pm EST: Sharon gives up. James, Natalie and Chelsia are still up on their platforms. James is moving around a lot but looks like he's got enough energy to keep hanging on. Chelsia looks exhausted and for some reason they're not giving us many close ups of Natalie so it's hard to tell how she's doing.
12:03 am EST:Chelsia either jumped down or she fell. Either way, its down to James and Natalie, both of with look like they could hang on for another hour if they needed to.
1:17 am EST: Natalie jumped down and James wins HoH. Thats two weeks in a row that the evicted houseguest is saved and goes on to win HoH. Natalie was complaining about thirst. Finally she asked for a deal for Matt's and her safety. He kept assuring her he wouldn't put either of them up. Finally she said ok and jumped/fell down and then threw up. After having a cigarette, James hugged Natalie (who was crying) and assured her once again that he wouldn't break his word.
