TV Recap: Big Brother - Week 7 Eviction
I don’t know why but I just didn’t feel that Chelsia’s rampage through the house this week was as entertaining as it should’ve been. Maybe it was the clips of her crying that put me off the whole thing because it made her rage look more tantrum-y than anything else. But I will say, the footage did make an otherwise predictable week all the more enjoyable in terms of tonight’s live show.
Before we get to that, though, let’s talk about Adam. Getting HoH last week earned Adam and his mom and brother some filler time on tonight’s live episode. His own mother says he has Rain-Man-like qualities. Considering the fact that Adam once referred to autistic people as “retards,” I’m not sure his mom’s comments should be taken as a complement by her son’s standards. Though I will say, it was rather sweet the way Baller’s mom and brother seem to really “get” him. From his fast ‘n slurred speech patterns to his random knowledge of things like the history of tea, their adoration of him is apparent.
In the other pre-taped portion of the show we get to see some footage of Chelsia reacting to the Veto ceremony. She spent some time crying to James about not wanting to leave yet but her sadness is soon replaced by rage. She believes Natalie orchestrated the whole week and that Adam was manipulated. I don’t totally get that because Chelsia should’ve known she and James were huge targets. They hit it off since day 1 so it was only a matter of time before the house tried to divide them. It’s not like this is the first week people tried to get them out. But she blames Natalie for everything and takes it out on her by crushing all of Natalie’s carefully painted Easter Eggs and repeatedly making fun of her (much of what was said, according to what I’ve read in the various feed recaps, was left on the cutting room floor). Natalie responds to this by giving herself a mani-pedi in the spa room and muttering to herself.
James’ response to all of this isn’t so much concern for Chelsia’s mental state but more concern that her behavior’s going to make him look bad. He compares her to the Titanic and himself as a helpless passenger who’s being dragged down. His desire to separate himself strategically from Chelsia was so great that he didn’t even give her a sympathy vote tonight.
Before the live votes, Chelsia gives a very sarcastic-sounding speech about keeping her dignity and something about not breastfeeding off any of the houseguests to get votes. Sorry, but isn’t campaigning for votes part of the game? Surely she could’ve at least tried to give the houseguests some incentive to vote out Sharon (who was already evicted once and has been floating her way through the game ever since). Sharon’s own willingness to go up on the block should’ve been a big enough indication to people that she’s such a non-threat that she’s exactly the kind of person who will end up in the final two because people are going to forget she’s even in the house. Hello? Erika anyone? Cowboy? Do these people not watch this show? I’m getting off topic.
The house votes unanimously to evict Chelsia. Before she goes, she tells Adam to get a backbone and Natalie to get educated. She also says something to Sheila about being rode hard and put away wet. After whispering something to James and Josh, she exits the house. During her interview with Julie, she explains about how she let her heart get in the way (referring to her feelings for James) and that she wants either James or Josh to win.
Moving on. This week’s HoH competition was based on the online survey that Big Brother did to get the viewers opinions on how they think the houseguests would behave in hypothetical situations. For example, which houseguest would lock themselves out of the White House? Strangely enough, Natalie seems to have the best grasp on how the viewers might perceive the houseguests because she gets all but one question right. And even more amusing is the fact that the one she got wrong had to do with herself. That has to mean something but I’m not a psychologist so I’m not even going to try to figure out what.

After Natalie wins Head of Household, somehow she manages to get a hug from Josh during her celebration but he looked decidedly uncomfortable. That’s probably what I love most about Josh. When he’s nervous, there’s no hiding it. I can’t wait to see how Natalie handles HoH this week. Will she target James, wanting to make a clean job of avenging Matt’s eviction? Or will she go after someone else?
