Football, football, football! Both the NFL and NCAA snagged top positions in broadcast television and cable last week. The NFL playoffs and wildcard games snagge the top three positions for airwaves viewership while the Allstate Sugar Bowl, one of a handful of bowl games to make a major network and the only bowl to make the top ten, took eighth place.
Oregon fans showed their pride by tuning in en masse to make their team's defeat of Oklahoma State at Qualcomm Stadium the most watched event on cable last week. In a very close second was Missouri's victory over Northwestern in the Alamodome. LSU's trouncing of Georgia Tech at the Georgia Dome made fourth and Iowa's toppling of South Carolina at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium had the distinguished honor of tying for ninth place with a Spongbob rerun.
Completely absent was any single network's coverage of New Year's Eve or New Year's Eve events. Viewers spread their love around the various networks coverage of the ball dropping. No indication of how many were tuned in to watch Kathy Griffin verbally abusing CNN's Cooper Anderson.
