Taylor Swift Will Guest Star In New Girl

Taylor Swift is headed to New Girl for a special guest starring role that seems sure to be a ratings bringer, for several reasons. Fox’s comedy has proven quite fond of name-dropping the musician during episodes in the past, but when Swift joins the set, she won’t be joining as herself. Instead, Swift is headed to New Girl to play a character named Elaine.

Swift will be part of New Girl’s May 14 episode, which actually happens to be Season 2’s finale date. According to EW, her character is an “important guest” that happens to be invited to a big wedding in the works—the season finale will feature the nuptials of Cece and Shivrang. Swift’s stint will apparently be shot next week. Between the finale, a wedding, and Swift the episode seems sure to be interesting.

Swift joins a slew of big names guest starring in Season 2 of New Girl, including The Americans’ Margo Martindale, Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Weaver, and The Good Wife’s Parker Posey. I’m not going to argue that Swift has acting talent of that caliber, but she does have some experience, having appeared in an episode of CSI, as well as in films like Valentine’s Day and the animated comedy The Lorax, where she provided voice work. Those experiences should be enough to allow her to play a role with a few lines in a half-hour sitcom.

Fox’s New Girl airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET and will return for Season 3 next season, as well.
