Thursday Night TV - Love Is In The Air

One of the things I noticed this Thursday night, after watching a half a day’s worth of primetime programming (I have my dual tuner TiVo DVR to thank for that), is that there are quite a few big romances playing out right now on Thursday night TV. I have to be honest though, while all of the current and budding romances are certainly keeping things interesting, I can’t say that I’m all that into all of them.

Loving It

Jim and Pam - The Office

Pam and Jim (aka PB&J) have been an ongoing thing since the beginning of The Office. It took them three seasons to finally get together and I think many of us were worried that when they did finally start a relationship, things would get boring. So far, that’s not the case. Not only is the couple as cute as ever but there’s still quite a bit of build-up now that we know Jim has “the ring” and is just waiting for the right moment to propose. His occasional fake-out non-proposals are great because it shows that the characters still know how to have fun and make each other laugh. Plus we all know sooner or later, Jim’s really going to pop the question and I’m thinking it’s going to be amazing when it happens.

Over It

Betty and Henry - Ugly Betty

Oh, how I once adored Betty and Henry as a couple. You had to be blind not to see the sparks fly whenever they were in the room together, sending sweet nerd-vibes each others’ way. But that was Ugly Betty-BC (Before Charlie). When Henry’s ex-girlfriend Charlie showed up last season, everything fell apart. Just when it seemed like things were going to happen for Betty and Henry, he goes and gets back together with Charlie. Then when he finally decides he wants to be with Betty, Charlie announces she’s pregnant. Now Henry’s trying to balance a relationship with Betty with his future as the father of his ex-girlfriend’s child. Seriously, doesn’t our Betty deserve better than this?

Plus it doesn’t help that the adorable sandwich-maker, Gio is just waiting in the wings, ready to sweep Betty off her feet. At this point, I’m thinking Betty’s got enough designer knock-off purses - I don't think she really needs Henry's baggage too. Enough of the Betty/Henry story. Bring on the Betty-Gio romance!

Into It

Callie and Hahn - Grey’s Anatomy

Woah! Before last week, did anyone see this coming? All of a sudden Callie, fresh from her divorce from George, has been spending quite a bit of time with the new Seattle Grace heart surgeon, Dr. Erica Hahn. No one really pays any attention to it other than maybe Cristina, who is envious that Callie’s on such good terms with the woman Cristina worships, professionally. Then all of a sudden Addison shows up to guest-star on a surgery and she notices what even Callie apparently hadn’t seen yet. Something more is going on between these two. Judging by the nervous laughter and awkward stuttering in Callie’s reaction when Addison questioned her about the possibility of her “Speaking the ‘Vagina Monologues,’” I’m thinking Callie’s not totally ready to explore lesbianism just yet. But I definitely don’t think this is the end of this Callie/Hahn story arc. Certainly not after the way Hahn was eyeing Callie on the dance floor at the end of the episode.

As I’m completely indifferent to the Alex/Ava story, elated that it appears the George/Izzie thing is completely over, and tired of watching the merry-go-round that is Mer/Der’s relationship, I’m excited to see what could be the start of a totally different kind of relationship on Grey’s.

Not Into It

Kate and Jack - Lost

Ok, I know the Kate-Jack thing has been building up slowly but surely over the course of the series but does anyone else think these two together is just a recipe for disaster? Maybe it’s just because bad things always seem to happen to the people Kate cares about or because Jack’s got enough issues of his own to sort out but I just have a hard time picturing these two ever being happy together. Plus there’s the whole Sawyer-factor and judging by what we saw in the flash-forwards this week, it seems like Sawyer’s managing to get in between Kate and Jack without even having to be around.
